About Malta

Malta is the European Union’s most southerly member state lying at the near centre of the Mediterranean. The Maltese Archipelago has, since time immemorial, been a meeting place for various nationalities and cultures.  Malta has leveraged on the advantages of its history and location to develop a thriving, open economy that is attracting considerable foreign direct investment.

As member of the European Union since 1 May, 2004, Malta is ideally placed to attract international business at the crossroads between Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. Malta offers a competitively-priced location with all the advantages of an EU state – including business, law and accounting practices in adherence with EU regulations.

There are numerous reasons why Malta makes sense as a base for international operations and for outsourcing. These include:

Place

  • Malta is international in outlook and attracts numerous nationalities to its shores – for business and leisure.
  • Malta has excellent flight connections and lies just 2-3 hours flying time from most major European cities.
  • Sophisticated ICT infrastructure well connected to the international backbone.
  • Malta has friendly relationships with both northern and southern rims of the Mediterranean.
  • Malta is on Central European Time, helping business run smoothly.

People & Professionalism

  • English is an official language, universally spoken and written, and is the language of business.  Major world languages are easily sourced from within Malta, drawn from its growing international workforce.
  • Highly-educated, motivated workforce.  The Maltese have a very high regard for education and some 60 per cent of students remain in education to tertiary level.
